Privacy policy
Plain-language summary first, full disclosure below. The calculator itself does not transmit any data — your inputs stay in your browser.
What data we collect
ClaimCalc collects two categories of data, both via Google Analytics 4:
- Anonymous usage data — page visits, time on page, which calculator was used, which guides were read, country and city (from anonymized IP), browser type, device type. We never see individual user identifiers.
- Aggregate calculator usage — which severity / state / scenario was most commonly selected (no input values, only category counts).
What we do not collect:
- The dollar amounts you enter into the calculator. These never leave your browser.
- Your email address (we do not have a signup form).
- Your name, phone, or any contact information.
- Your IP address in unmodified form (Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymization).
Cookies and similar technologies
We use three categories of browser storage:
- Strictly necessary (always on, no cookies set): the calculator stores nothing in cookies. Your inputs live in browser memory only, lost when you close the tab.
- Analytics (optional): Google Analytics 4 sets the
_gaand_ga_HN0PQL3DJ4cookies (expiry: 2 years) to distinguish unique visitors and sessions. You can opt out in the cookie banner or in the footer "Cookie settings" link any time. - Advertising (currently off): when Google AdSense is activated later in 2026, ad cookies will be set only if you opt in. Your current setting controls this toggle in advance.
We also store your consent decision in your browser's localStorage
under the key cc-consent-v1. This is not a cookie and does not
identify you — it only remembers your choice so the banner doesn't reappear.
Affiliate links and third parties
Some links on this site go to legal directories (LegalMatch,
Martindale-Hubbell, FindLaw, Avvo, and similar). These links are marked
with rel="sponsored" per FTC and search-engine guidelines.
When you click an affiliate link:
- We add UTM parameters to the URL so we can measure outcomes in our own analytics.
- The destination site (e.g. LegalMatch) loads in a new tab and follows their privacy policy, not ours.
- If you register with the destination service and we receive a referral fee, that fee does not change anything about your relationship with them.
You can read each partner's privacy policy on their site before signing up. We do not share any data with these partners beyond the standard HTTP referrer.
Your rights (GDPR, CPRA, LGPD, PIPEDA)
Regardless of your jurisdiction, you have the following rights with respect to data we have about you:
- Right to access — request a copy of the analytics data tied to your visits. Note: because Google Analytics 4 anonymizes data, this typically means we can confirm general visit metadata but cannot identify you individually.
- Right to deletion — request deletion of analytics records. Email us and we'll process via Google Analytics' user-deletion API.
- Right to opt out — toggle off Analytics in the cookie banner. Future visits will not be tracked.
- Right to portability — request your data in machine-readable format (CSV/JSON).
- Right to non-discrimination — opting out does not change the site experience.
For California residents (CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information, but you may still exercise the "right to know" and "right to delete" via the contact email below.
For EU/UK residents (GDPR): our lawful basis for analytics processing is consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Necessary cookies use legitimate interest.
"Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" (CPRA)
To opt out of any current or future sale or sharing of your personal information:
- Click the "Cookie settings" link in the footer and disable the "Advertising" category. This sets
ad_storage = deniedin Google Consent Mode v2, blocking any data that could be classified as "sold" or "shared" under CPRA. - Or email editor@claimcalc.app with subject "CPRA Opt-Out Request" and we will confirm the opt-out within 15 business days.
You may also exercise your CPRA rights through an authorized agent. Submit the request via email with a notarized authorization or signed permission. We will respond within 45 days as required by CPRA Section 1798.130.
Data retention
Google Analytics 4 data is retained for 2 months at the user and event level (the minimum GA4 retention period — we chose the most privacy-protective option). Aggregate reports are retained indefinitely but contain no identifiable information.
Affiliate referral data (which UTM-tagged link was clicked) is retained for 12 months for fraud detection and revenue reconciliation, then deleted.
Children's privacy
ClaimCalc is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the site, contact us and we will delete any associated records.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when we add new tracking (e.g. when AdSense activates), change partners, or fix accuracy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced with a one-time banner.
Contact
